Waiting for an Answer
I know what it feels like to be human, waiting for answers from heaven.
Sometimes I wonder what that experience looks like from the other side. Perhaps there are exasperated angels doing everything they can to get my attention while I sit there, thinking very hard, completely blind and deaf to what should be obvious.
This painting is a lighthearted meditation on a very real frustration: the desire to find truth, recognize what is good, and somehow know when an answer has actually come.
The medieval angels surrounding the figure seem to offer advice, warnings, and increasingly urgent attempts to be noticed. Behind her, the banner reads Hoc est responsum tuum—“This is your answer.”
And still, she wonders.
