A Place to Rest
"Painting a figure from life, in a short amount of time feels like an athletic performance.
I get a little nervous, I fidget, I have my rituals. I even need to stretch sometimes….
Getting into that same zone where time and ambiant distractions fall away.
Thinking hard, but not overthinking; Making painfully careful marks look like they magic-ed their way easily onto canvas.
Standing in front of a blank canvas I learn faith over and over again that somehow, in the next couple of hours something will exist that is worthy of a place in this world. Something that won’t live… but has a spirit."
