• Fortitude

"I took the reference photo for this painting during a pioneer reenactment trek across parts of Wyoming. My role was to be a “Ma” to nearly a dozen teenagers who donned bonnets, cowboyhats, skirts and suspenders. I watched them sing and play and drag loaded handcarts for miles; for days. I watched injured and disabled kids lifted into wagons by their exhausted peers and pulled up rocky hillsides in the heat of summer.

I watched kids who thought they “couldn’t” beam with fortitude as they became new creatures capable of long hauls on rocky ridges."
