Oil on Linen, 12 × 12in
Exhibitions: Colorado Governor's Show 2024
Artist's Statement:
This painting draws from a nostalgic connection to childhood, specifically my own experience growing up with three younger sisters. What begins as a tender and familiar subject—a sweet exchange between girls—evolves into an exploration of contrasts. Bold, abstract shapes and high-contrast forms challenge the delicate expressions and gentle theme, while the energetic texture of the brushstrokes is set against the stillness of a captured moment. Vintage-inspired clothing and toys further juxtapose these contemporary compositional choices. The work ultimately aims to convey a meaningful exchange through the language of abstraction and material experimentation.
